As an F-1 student, your primary major must be either an Associate degree program, or English Language Training (English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program). Not all programs are eligible for F-1 students. Students applying to study at Saint Paul College in F-1 status must choose a primary program from the list linked below.

F-1 Eligible Programs
Students wishing to pursue an academic Associate degree program at Saint Paul College who do not quite meet English proficiency requirements for this program (and otherwise meet admission requirements) will be issued an I-20 for a Pathway Program. Students in the Pathway Program will start with intensive English language courses and matriculate into their Associate degree program of choice upon completion of these courses. Saint Paul College has several special application programs that international students can apply to. These programs are:

• Medical Laboratory Technician Associate of Applied Science Degree
• Respiratory Therapist Associate of Applied Science Degree
• Sign Language Interpreter/Transliterator Associate of Applied Science Degree
• Surgical Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree

If you apply to Saint Paul College for one of these programs, you will be admitted into a pre-program. You will be required to take prerequisite classes before you can submit a special application to start classes for these programs. These prerequisite classes will take one or more semesters to complete. Depending on the program, there may be additional requirements.

Each program has different requirements and deadlines for the program application, and admission to the program is not guaranteed even if all prerequisite classes are completed. If you are not accepted into the program, you may need to change your program of student. It is highly recommended that students pursuing these programs meet regularly with their Pathway Advisor while in the pre-program to plan for the special application and timelines.

Follow these steps if you are a new international student not currently living in the US, and want to apply for an F-1 visa to attend Saint Paul College.

1. Submit the online Saint Paul College application
   Submitting the online application is the first step. This step must be completed before submitting the International Application eForm. When you submit the online application for the first time, you will create a Star ID and password. This Star ID and password is required to submit the International Application eForm.

2. Submit the below documents through the International Application Document Submission eForm
   This form requires you to upload the required documents and materials listed below. You will have only 30 minutes to complete and submit the form. You must have all required documents prepared and ready for upload. After 30 minutes, the form will time out and delete your information.

   Before proceeding, please ensure you have the following documents ready to upload:

   • Copy of valid passport 
   • Copy of secondary school/high school records (diploma/leaving certificate/proof of completion) – English translation is required
   • F-1 International Student Agreement Form
   • Proof of funds:
   • Financial Certification Statement Form, signed by sponsor or student (if self-sponsored)
   • A bank statement showing at least $24,015 (USD)
   • Proof of English Language Proficiency: Click here to see English proficiency requirements and accepted tests/assessments

   Once all of your documents are ready, log-in to the International Application Document Submission eForm using your Star ID and password to submit your documents. If you have forgotten your Star ID or password, visit: starid.minnstate.edu/selfservice

3. Receive admissions decision
   After submitting the eForm, your documents will be reviewed within 5-10 business days. If we require any additional information from you, we will notify you via email. Once your completed application has been received, you will be notified via email of your admission. You will receive your Form I-20 and Saint Paul College acceptance letter within 5-10 business days of your admission to the college.

Follow these steps if you are a SEVIS Transfer international student. This means you are currently in the US on an F-1 visa at another college or university, and wish to transfer to Saint Paul College in F-1 status.

Follow these steps if you are currently in the US on a visa type other than F-1 (J-1, H-4, H1-B, F-2, etc) and wish to apply to USCIS for a change to F-1 status to attend classes at Saint Paul College.

Please note: Saint Paul College will not issue an I-20 for a change of status from any B visitor visa.

If you are currently in the US on an F-1 visa and you are maintaining that visa status with another US college or university, and do not intend to transfer to Saint Paul College, you may be considered a visiting student.

If you are an F-1 visiting student and do not require an I-20 from Saint Paul College, please notify International Student Admissions by emailing international@thechromaticendpin.com. We may need to override parts of your application after you confirm your visiting student status to allow you to register for classes.

Saint Paul College has partnered with the following four-year universities for guaranteed conditional admissions. At the time you apply to Saint Paul College, you may contact Saint Paul College to request a guaranteed conditional admissions letter for one of these universities.

Guaranteed conditional admissions are non-binding and you can change your mind later on. By participating in guaranteed conditional admissions, you will be authorizing Saint Paul College to give your contact information to the university you select. When you apply for your student visa, you should show the consular officer both letters of admission and be prepared to explain your four-year academic plan.

While the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is not a participant in this guaranteed conditional admission program, Saint Paul College is part of theMinnesota Cooperative Admissions Program (MnCAP). You can transfer credits from Saint Paul College to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Saint Paul College does not evaluate international transcripts. If you have a college/university transcript from a foreign country and you wish to transfer your credit to Saint Paul College, you must have a third party transcript evaluator determine how the courses translate to U.S. courses.

While we will accept evaluations from any AICE (www.aice-eval.org) or NACES member (www.naces.org), we highly recommend Educational Credential Evaluators (www.ece.org) or World Education Services, Inc. (www.wes.org). Saint Paul College reserves the right to request additional information from you such as course descriptions, syllabi, etc. There is no guarantee that your credits will transfer and it is your responsibility to request a timely evaluation.

Allow 4-8 weeks for a transcript evaluation to be completed after you have been admitted to a major at Saint Paul College.

A family member or friend can help you with your application, but you as the student must ultimately submit the online application and all subsequent application documents.

Due to federal privacy laws, Saint Paul College staff cannot speak to anyone except the student regarding their application status and any official college records. If you have an individual whom you would like to give College staff permission to speak with in regard to your application and materials needed to complete the application, you must submit the Authorization to Release Student Information eForm. This form must be completed by the student applicant.

Unless this form is submitted by the student, documents sent by family members, friends, or third parties of an applicant will not be accepted.

As required by US government regulation, F-1 international applicants must provide evidence of financial support for one full year for all expenses, including tuition, fees, books and supplies, mandatory health insurance, living expenses, and transportation.

The bank statement must demonstrate liquid funds and be less than three months old. Statements from retirement accounts, such as IRAs or 401(K)s, will not be accepted.

This statement can be an account summary, or letter from the bank. The following information must be available on the statement or bank letter:

• Name of Account Holder
• Date
• Currency
• Type of Account
• Account Balance
• Have an English translation, if the original documents are not in English
• If the bank account is in the name of a business, you must also provide a letter on the business’ letterhead indicating that you will have access to the funds demonstrated on the statement provided

Saint Paul College reserves the right to request additional bank documentation if further verification of your bank statement is required.

Although Saint Paul College does not assist in filing this form and this form is not required to submit to Saint Paul College, it is highly recommended for financial sponsors who are US citizens or residents to also file the Affidavit of Support Form I-134 (most recent form here: www.uscis.gov/i-134) and supporting evidence.

Saint Paul College does not offer any first-semester scholarships, and the college does not have any financial aid or financial support available for international students.

As an international student, it is critical that you have the funds to support yourself throughout the duration of your studies at Saint Paul College.

On-campus work opportunities at Saint Paul College are extremely limited. There are no off-campus work opportunities for F-1 international students in the first year of study and the options that become available after the first year of study are also limited and not guaranteed.

Saint Paul College scholarships are available to apply for after the first semester. These scholarships range from $500 to $1,500 per semester and are not guaranteed. These college scholarships should not be used as a primary source of funding.

Saint Paul College does not recommend relying on any type of employment or college scholarship as a means of long-term financial support.

Ultimately, it is each student’s individual responsibility to ensure that they have the funds to pay for tuition, living expenses, mandatory health insurance, and any other expenses while a student at Saint Paul College. Failure to financially prepare may result in the need to leave the US early without completing your academic program and/or the loss of F-1 legal status.

Yes, you still need to provide proof of English proficiency. Our English Language Training courses (English for Academic Purposes) begin at the high intermediate level. The college does not offer beginner level English language courses. However, the level required for English Language Training is not as high as the requirement for Associate degree programs.

If you do not meet the English proficiency requirement for our English for Academic Purposes courses yet, but wish to take some beginner level English classes as an international student and later transfer to Saint Paul College, we recommend the following options:

• English Language Center (ELS)
• Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) at the University of Minnesota

A dependent of an F-1 student is known as an F-2 dependent. To qualify as an F-2 dependent, the dependent must be the spouse (married partner) of the F-1 student, or unmarried minor child under the age of 21 of the F-1 student.

Upon completing the admission process to Saint Paul College, both the F-1 applicant and the F-2 dependent(s) each receive Forms I-20 needed to apply for the F-1 and F-2 visas, respectively.
